After analyst roles with Toronto insolvency firms Soberman, and Meyers Norris Penny, Richard joined BDO Canada (Mississauga offices) to complete his professional accreditation. He commenced his professional practice as a licensed trustee in bankruptcy in June of 2013 with BDO, and then founded Goldhar & Associates Ltd. in November 2013.

Richard’s experience in CA-dominated insolvency firms has inspired Richard to stay true to his values and create a professional practice centered around the financial and personal needs of his clients.

Richard lives in Toronto with his wife, Jennifer Shupak, a personal injury lawyer at Capp Shupak, and their two young sons. As a family, Richard and Jennifer are committed to philanthropy and the tradition of giving back to the community, and they are ongoing supporters of many charitable endeavours.

Ken founded the insolvency firm Tessis & Partners, with his late father, Joseph Tessis, in 1978. The firm provided insolvency and restructuring services to individuals and businesses across Ontario. In 1997, Tessis & Partners merged with Soberman LLP, where Ken continued as the partner leading this service niche.

Ken has been designated a specialist
 in Insolvency and Restructuring by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is available for consulting engagements for individuals and for businesses. He also consults as an expert witness in litigation matters.

Ken’s unique expertise has been a tremendous asset to Goldhar & Associates in our position as Ontario’s fastest-growing independent insolvency firm.

Catherine Stockton
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in
Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Fort Erie and the Niagara Peninsula.

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, Catherine spent 7 years in South Africa before emigrating to Canada in 1977. She worked at Bell Canada processing the consumer insolvency desk until 1998, then studied to become a law clerk, joining Paralegal Services of Ontario in 2000 as an independent paralegal and senior administrator/ counsellor. In 2002 she graduated from Ryerson with her counselling certificate.

She joined BDO New Beginnings in 2007 as a credit counsellor and debt management consultant. Subsequent career moves took her to Clarke Henning, and then David Sklar and Associates. Catherine continued to enhance her credentials by attaining her certifications as an estate administrator and insolvency counsellor.

Catherine became part of Goldhar in 2015, staffing the office in Niagara Falls, where she is committed to help clients move through the insolvency process with dignity and confidence. In her own words: “I try to make the journey as stress free as possible.”

Natalie Behar, BA, CAIRP
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Coburg and surrounding areas.

A graduate of York University with a degree in sociology, Natalie has held a variety of positions with leading debt resolution and insolvency firms. In 2009 she joined the insolvency division of Deloitte Canada, completing the CAIRP Insolvency Administration course and assisting clients as an estate administrator and debt counsellor. She moved to Debt Care Canada in 2011 as Office Manager and Credit Counsellor, enhancing her credentials by completing the CAIRP Insolvency Counsellor course and becoming a Registered Counsellor with the OSB.

Eager for greater career challenges, Natalie joined Goldhar in 2013, where she continues to assist clients as an Estate Administrator and Credit Counsellor in our Whitby office. Natalie is also a CQP candidate working toward earning her CIRP qualification.

Natalie lives in Toronto with her husband and four year old twins. She enjoys spending time with her family, baking and volunteering at a variety of charitable organizations across the GTA.

Roberta Robinson, CAIRP

Stratford, London and southwestern Ontario.

Born and raised in Lambton County, Roberta attended Mohawk College in Hamilton, receiving a diploma in Business Administration in 1993. She began working for a bankruptcy trustee in Burlington on a co-op program and stayed on after graduation.

In 1997, she moved back to her roots in Lambton County and covered a maternity leave for Karen Liberty at KPMG. Roberta stayed on, enhancing her qualifications by completing the CAIRP Administration course in 2004 and the Insolvency Counsellor course in 2007. 

In September 2016, Roberta followed Karen to Goldhar where, as a senior estate administrator, she staffs the Goldhar office in Stratford and assists Karen Liberty throughout southwestern Ontario.

Jeff Maracle, CFP, CAIRP

in Belleville, Kingston, Trenton and surrounding areas.

Born and raised in the Quinte area, Jeff began his financial career in personal banking, becoming a credit specialist and a  Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

After 20 years in  banking, Jeff chose a new path as a not-for-profit credit counsellor , which permitted him to better address the real financial needs and issues of people and small businesses.

In 2014 Jeff joined Goldhar and is now your shed the debt® specialist in Kingston/Quinte, where he is happy to be helping people who are concerned about their debt load and their ability to repair their credit.

Serena Peksa, CAIRP

Born and raised in Scarborough, Serena began her career in insolvency in 2006, before graduating from college in 2007. She completed the CAIRP course in 2008, and worked as an estate administrator and debt counsellor with a GTA insolvency firm. She continued her studies at Seneca College with courses in Family Financial Planning and Accounting . Attracted to Goldhar by its fresh, friendly approach and energy, Serena moved to Goldhar in 2016 and is the on-site shed the debt specialist in the Thornhill office.

Throughout her career as an estate administrator and insolvency counsellor, Serena has provided insightful and non-judgmental guidance to people struggling with personal debt loads. The most fulfilling aspect of her role is seeing the relief and renewed sense of well being people experience once they shed the debt that has been holding them back for so long.

Serena lives in Vaughan with her fiancé, and enjoys time spent with family, cooking, and being out in nature.

Jeannie Tran
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in Marham, Richmond Hill, and Mississauga.

Since graduating college in 1996, Jeannie has held a variety of roles in tax and finance. Her experience in tax and day-to-day cash management enables her to assist Goldhar clients in budgeting and personal financial management.

Jeannie is able to work with Goldhar clients in Chinese and Vietnamese.

Jeannie lives in Mississauga with her husband and son, who is a basketball enthusiast. Weekends are often spent at basketball tournaments.

Karen Tompkins
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in Peterborough.

Originally from the UK, Karen emigrated to Canada in 1981 with her family.

Karen began her career as an insolvency professional 26 years ago with KPMG in Kitchener. In 2007, after 17 years with KPMG, Karen went to work for 310 Debt in Kitchener. In 2008, Karen and her husband and twin girls, moved to Australia, living in Perth, Western Australia. Karen’s roles in Australia included working as a Financial Counsellor for a Not for Profit, and working for the State Government as a Resource Officer. Karen’s knowledge of insolvency and credit counselling, came in useful, in both roles. In 2010, Karen returned to Canada and resumed working for 310 Debt in Kitchener. MNP took over the practice of 310 Debt in 2011, and Karen continued to work for MNP as a Senior Estate Manager until 2017.

Karen enhances her credentials by obtaining her Insolvency Counsellor course in 2007 and the CAIRP Administration course in 2015.
Karen had worked with Goldhar LIT Barb Visentin for many years at KPMG in Kitchener. In April 2017, Karen relocated to Peterborough, to join her husband, who had already been working in Peterborough for the past two years. Attracted by Goldhar’s approach to client service, Karen accepted a new role in a new city and joined the Goldhar team in July 2017.
Karen enjoys helping people get a fresh start. Karen treats people dealing with financial difficulty, with kindness and compassion. “I strive to ensure that people are treated with respect and dignity in order to make the situation as stressfree as possible, during this difficult phase”.

Karen lives in Douro Dummer Township, just outside Peterborough with her husband and has two grown children and in her spare time enjoys travel and gardening.

Stephan Robichaud-Tobin, AFCC, CAIRP
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville and surrounding areas.

Born and raised in Toronto, Stephan began his financial career as a bookkeeper for non-profit start-up organization dedicated to providing employment training and life-skills to Toronto’s at-risk youth. During his 5 year tenure, he witnessed the transformative effect of budgets, money management and clear financial information.

Equipped with these skills, Stephan joined a non-profit credit counselling agency in 2005. Starting in the in-take department, he handled calls and booked appointments with anxious clients. He quickly advanced to the Account Administrator position, where he was responsible for the day-to-day management of about 1500 client files from across the country.

These 2 positions provided a great foundation for counselling and a few years later, Stephan acquired his credentials as a CAIRP Insolvency Counsellor course and became a Registered Counsellor with the OSB. In the years that followed, he enhanced his credentials by completing the Accredited Financial Counsellor of Canada course. As a certified credit counsellor for the past 7 years, Stephan has met with about 1200 clients a year and has helped resolve financial issues both large and small.

In 2017 Stephan joined Goldhar and is now your shed the debt® specialist for Ottawa, where he is crafting new metaphors to help clients clearly understand and solve their financial issues. He can meet with you at the Goldhar offices in downtown Ottawa.

Stephan lives in Ottawa and when he is not in the office he can be found running along the canal, taking photographs of stained glass or lounging in bookstores.

Joan Fay Cabacungan
Your Goldhar shed the debt® representative in Greater Toronto Area.

Since graduating college in 2010 with a major in marketing management, Joan has held a variety of roles in banking, small business administration, and personal care. Her experience in these roles enables her to assist Goldhar clients in monthly budgeting and to Shed the Debt. Joan’s caring and compassionate nature along with her many years at various jobs enables her to be excellent at assisting those in financial need and keeping their situation very confidential.

Joan is able to work with Goldhar clients in many of the Filipino dialects. Joan lives in Bathurst and Eglinton corridor. Weekends are often spent with friends and attending family functions.
